West Kent Construction

Blaydens is a high-end residential property set in six acres of grounds with superb views of Mayfield village on the distant hill.

The rear of the property was flanked by a large oak deck and the front was covered in part by a glass atrium. Although neither structure had been in place for any significant time, both had signs of structural failure requiring repair work and creating the opportunity for a design re-think.

The brief was for an attractive replacement masonry structure to the rear with workshop and storage below. An attractive infill was also sought to the front of the property to create a first-floor library and unify the appearance of the front elevation. Additional works also involved the creation of a basement gym and snooker room below the existing building.

WKCS looked after the design work, planning, building regulations, structural design work and, of course, the construction. The basement required tanking membranes and the deck required supreme wide-beam floor lintels due to the wide spans. Work below ground was challenging but the results were simply stunning, providing a level of accommodation on a par with the property's beautiful location.

"You have given us exactly what we wanted. Everyone loves the granite deck and the clever drainage system below is ingenious. We are so pleased to have found you and have recommended you to our friends."
