Our client was a private investor seeking a showcase apartment from vacant space on the third and fourth floor of a disused Victorian textile factory.
WKCS and its client felt that the building's distinctive character and history should be enhanced and not covered up wherever possible. The accommodation had to allow for three double bedrooms and a master suite, all arranged in such a way that it maximised the available space and light.
As enabling works progressed, features were exposed and a number of design alterations incorporated 'on-the-fly' to enhance the character of the building.
A feature staircase earmarked for scrap was rescued from a local courtyard, and restored. Significant structural works were carried out and several large cantilevered steel beams installed giving the illusion of a floating floor. A viewing platform was added to the roof space and the structure and coverings altered to maximize impact and the property's investment value.
"I am delighted with the end result. The team from West Kent Construction Services were extremely efficient, accommodating my many changes and bringing the project in on time and under budget."
